Born in january 29th 1874 in New-Carlisle, Bonav., Gaspesia.
Son of Daniel Assels, farmer (1845-1919) and Elizabeth Gallan (1852-1930), both of Cox County (now New-Carlisle), Bonav., Gaspesia.
James won't get married.
He will work in a lumber company in Atholville of Campbellton, NB.
He was an edgerman from 1918 until 1921 when his death happened.
According to his death certificate, he was struck by a piece of chopped wood which the circular saws rejected. He was killed instantly on August 19, 1921. He was buried on the following 21 in the cemetry St. Andrew.
According to his baptismal record and his death certificate, he died at the age of 48. In the 1881 census, the enumerator noted that he was deaf and mute.

Il travaillera dans une compagnie de bois de construction à Atholville/Campbellton, N-B.
Il sera opérateur de machines à scier le bois de 1918 jusqu'en 1921 où survint son décès.
Selon son certificat de décès, il fut frappé par un morceau de bois débité que les scies circulaires rejetèrent. Il fut tué sur le coup le 19 août 1921. Il sera inhumé le 21 suivant.
